Project:

Make It Nelson is a celebration of creativity and making, bringing together artists, craftspeople and makers for a month of hands-on workshops across Whakatū Nelson.

Working with the festival's bold, colourful identity, designed by This Is Them, I produced a series of A3 letterpress posters to promote the event and serve as keepsakes for workshop facilitators.

Printmaking:

The festival's emphasis on making things by hand was a natural fit for letterpress. Wherever possible, I used locally made materials and traditional printing techniques to reflect the kaupapa of the event.

I divided the print run into two colourways — one printed in deep green ink, the other in pastel pink — using a wide selection of coloured card stocks.

With just one ink colour on each poster, the different paper colours transformed the results, creating a playful collection of variations from the same original design.
