SILK CUT | Grey Lino

from $8.50

Silk Cut Grey Lino has been specially developed for printmaking, offering a softer, easier carving experience than traditional brown lino. Made from natural materials including linseed oil and wood flour with a hessian backing, it provides clean, consistent carving and excellent printing results.

Suitable for both beginners and experienced printmakers, Silk Cut Grey Lino accepts pencil, ink and transferred designs with ease. It can also be gently warmed before carving to make cutting even easier.

Compatible with both oil-based and water-based relief inks, it prints beautifully on a wide range of papers, board and fabric.

Why we love it at The Armarie Room:

Easy to carve, beautifully consistent and made from natural materials. We particularly appreciate that it's manufactured using linseed oil and wood flour, making it a more environmentally conscious choice than many synthetic carving surfaces. The fact that it's biodegradable is an added bonus.

Recommendations:

  • Lightly sand the surface with a fine-grit sandpaper before transferring your design and carving.

  • For easier carving, gently warm the lino on a heat plate or other low, even heat source.

  • Suitable for both oil-based and water-based relief inks.

  • Can be cut to size by scoring the hessian backing with a craft knife and snapping along the cut line.

  • Dimensions may vary slightly (1–3 mm) due to the manufacturing and cutting process.
