This is an opportunity to dive into our beautiful collection of wooden type and craft quirky designs and vibrant posters. Perfect for creative imaginations who love working with their hands and want to have fun with typography.

Participants will use our rare 1860 Albion Press to print their designs. This cast-iron beauty is a joy to operate, with a handle to crank and a big lever to pull. The finished prints are always an exciting and unexpected surprise.

Learn in a small, friendly group, and take home beautifully printed, original works of art on paper. Students are encouraged to bring a favourite quote, phrase, or inspiring text (5–8 words recommended) to personalise their design.

COURSE DETAILS

Morning Class: 9:30am - 11:30am | TBC, 2025

Afternoon Class: 1:30pm - 3:30pm | TBC, 2025

Location: The Armarie Room, Founders Park, Nelson

Instructor: Renee Hadlow

Experience Level: Beginner. Minimum age 16+

Limited to 6 places, bookings essential.

 

  • Materials and equipment are included in the course fee. Additional tools and materials can be purchased if required.

  • Bring your creative energy and some images or drawings that you would like to work from.

  • In the workshop wear closed toe shoes and some old clothes. Long hair should be tied back and jewellery removed when operating the printing presses.

  • Refunds or cancellations cannot be accepted within 72 hours of the course starting. You can however transfer your enrolment to another person who would like to participate.

  • The Armarie Room will reschedule any classes that cannot take place due to unforeseen circumstances.
