The Design:

The starting point for Amelia and Andrew's invitation was Hillbrook Estate in Whangamatā. They came to me with inspiration for the overall layout and knew they wanted the venue to be the focal point of the design, captured from a particular angle that highlighted its distinctive poolside windows.

From the outset, the illustration was intended to be printed as a blind deboss, allowing the architecture to emerge through texture rather than ink. Floral details were used for the accompanying details card, creating a subtle contrast between the clean architectural lines of the invitation and the softer botanical elements within the suite.

The original colour palette centred on white, black and gold, with the goal of creating something modern and timeless. As the design developed, the black typography felt heavier than the understated illustration, so we shifted to warm metallic gold instead. The softer tone complemented the tactile debossed illustration and brought a sense of warmth and refinement to the finished invitation.
