The Design:
Angela and Justin were drawn to embossed botanical details, a green and cream palette, and the idea of incorporating native flora. Mānuka became the starting point, creating the texture and detail they loved while giving the invitation suite a character of its own.
Layering became an important part of the design. Separating the RSVP from the details card allowed cream and green papers to alternate through the suite, finished with a deep-green invitation tie personalised with the couple's monogram. Embossed mānuka carried across the paper and envelope flap, which opened to reveal a fern-lined interior — a detail chosen by Justin.
The invitation suite established the palette, artwork and typography to build upon for the wedding day. Working alongside wedding stylist Claire Donaldson Styling, we introduced a pattern inspired by the tiles at Putiki Estate, a custom wedding crest and richly detailed tapestry artwork. A tī kōuka illustration was also created as a refined reference to New Zealand's native flora.
Each element was interpreted differently rather than simply repeated. The Putiki tile pattern became tactile letterpress bar-menu covers; mānuka framed the table numbers; the tapestry artwork wrapped menu enclosures and seating pillars; and the tī kōuka illustration moved beyond paper onto embroidered napkins and printed coasters.
The collection grew far beyond the original invitation while remaining connected to it — carrying the same colours, forms and artwork throughout the celebration.
